Galactic Republic of Calorn®

CHAPTER 15
The Battle

Caleus and I left the library by the green column and stepped out of the green arched section of the library wall onto the blue surface beside the scooter. The sun had set and the stars shone brightly in Calorn's night sky. After I closed off the green arch, I retrieved my Pass and joined Caleus who was sitting in the scooter.

"Contact the Hawk on Jade and find out how many people they have trained," I said, as I sat down beside her, "and I'll do the same with the Hawk on Earth."

"I'm doing that now!" Caleus said.

I jumped the scooter to the control deck of the Eagle and said by thought-voice, "This is Captain Caleb calling the crew of the Hawk. I need to know how many people are trained to control the vessel and its weapons?" a jumble of thoughts entered my mind, so I picked out one.

"This is Captain Frank Jones, Captain Caleb, Sir. There are five hundred and four crew members at this time. May we be of service to you, Sir?" he thought-said.

"Yes, Frank, you can. We are going to let each of the crew participate in a battle against the alien invaders. Get all crew members aboard the Hawk and meet the Eagle at the planet Sustenance as soon as you can," I thought-said.

"Yes, Sir, Captain Caleb! The Hawk will be there in ten minutes, or less, Sir!" Frank thought-said."

I turned to Caleus and she said, "The Hawk on Jade has four hundred and seventy-two crew members. How many have they trained on Earth?"

"Five hundred and four," I told her, "so that's nine hundred and seventy-six people we can use. If we use the one hundred Condors, we can place eight crew members aboard each of them and the remainder can stay with the Hawks. That is, if that's all right with you?"

"I was thinking the same, Caleb!" Caleus said, with a puzzled look on her face.

We jumped the Eagle to Sustenance and had Micro to bring the one-hundred Condor vessels there also. A few minutes later, the two Hawk vessels arrived and we explained to the crews what we wanted them to do.

"Connect your vessel to the bottom of a Condor and eight of the crew go aboard each vessel, by using the green transport column, until you have crewed fifty of the Condor vessels. Make sure that at least one crew member on each Condor was with us when we fought the four alien vessels a few days ago," is what Caleus and I told the crews of the two Hawks by thought.

The Hawks maneuvered to touch the bottom of each Condor and dispensed the eight crew members, but it took a lot longer than I thought it would take to have the one hundred Condors crewed with eight people, which would leave seventy-two crew members on Jade's Hawk and one hundred and four on Earth's Hawk, but eventually, all of the vessels were ready to go.

Caleus and I put our thoughts together and then told the crews of the one hundred and two vessels about the two hundred alien vessels setting out at the edge of this galaxy and how we were going to fight them:

"Everyone, get your dent panels and viewers in place and your hands steady over the weapons' dents," we thought-said, "There are two hundred alien vessels setting at the edge of the galaxy and they are a threat to the planet Earth," Caleus said Jade, "The last time we engaged the aliens, they were easy to defeat, but we can not be certain that this time will be as easy because of their alien tactics.

"Therefore, connect your Condors to the bottom of another Condor, so that you will have the extra power to battle any unknown weapons of the aliens if they should have any. The Hawks will stay as single vessels." The Jade Condors maneuvered to connect themselves to other Jade Condors, and the Earth Condors did the same. The Hawk vessels were the only ones left that didn't look like huge black eggs.

"When you are ready, place a chart of our galaxy on your viewers," I thought-said to the Captains, "At the top of the viewer are the alien vessels, which are the blinking red dots. The blinking blue dots to the right of center are our vessels. Scattered throughout the galaxy are the planets of the Galactic Republic of Calorn, which are the red dots with a green circle around them. Your planet is the green dot with a red circle around it." (Caleus told the Jade Space Force that there planet was the blue dot with a red circle around it.)

"Now, rotate the chart and choose an alien vessel as your target.

"We want twenty-six of our vessels to jump behind the alien vessels and the other twenty-six vessels will jump in front of the aliens. As soon as you jump, fire the GI beam (Gravity Imitator) at all the alien vessels in your vicinity. If the aliens have already fired their weapons, use the SID (Stunner Integrator-Disintegrator) to disintegrate the projectiles, or whatever they have fired from their weapons, as well as the GI beam. Call us if you capture a vessel, and we will dispose of it with our weapon.

"We believe that you can defeat these evil beings, so good-luck and let the Creator's thoughts be with you."

The blue dots on the viewer vanished from around the planet Sustenance as each of our egg shaped vessels, and the Hawks, jumped to the vicinity of the alien vessels, so we jumped the Eagle to our target vessel also. The evil beings had learned what could happen if they were caught in the beam of the GI, so they had moved swiftly away from the galaxy as soon as our vessels appeared; however, each of the alien vessels had fired a salvo of fire balls in every direction before they had departed.

Although, the paired Condors and the single Hawks had disintegrated all of the fire balls in one hour, one fire ball got to within two light years of the Earth before it was disintegrated by the Earth Hawk.

Caleus and I kept track of the alien vessels, and all but one had stopped in space, at fifty-five light years from the galaxy, waiting, no doubt, to see if any of their weapons had hit anything, or for us to chase them. The one alien vessel had continued on out into space toward another galaxy, and it was soon out of our range to detect it.

We had our vessels to line up on the edge of the galaxy and to fire their SID at full force toward the alien vessels. Because of the distance, the red dots on the viewer didn't start winking out for five minutes, and then only half of them winked out. The other red dots moved swiftly toward the other galaxy and out of our range.

"It seems that we have turned the aliens back this time," Caleus said, as she stood and stretched out her arms, "but I wonder how long it will be before they return again?"

I stood up and stretched my muscles also, and said, "I hope we have the time to fully crew all of the vessels before they return. If not, we may lose the next battle."

Caleus sat down, and said, "That is a possibility if they bring more vessels than they had this time," she turned to me as I sat down and said, "Caleb, I believe we should let the crews keep the Condor vessels they are using now so they can train their crews faster. What do you think?"

"That's strange! I was thinking the same thing, Caleus," I said, puzzled.

"You know, I felt the same way a few times earlier when you would say something that I also was about to say," Caleus said, "Do you think something happened to us when we were shocked by that metal plate in the library?"

"It could be!" I said, "What did that plate have written on it? Oh yes, I remember it now. "Our thoughts will be your thoughts", is what it said. Maybe we have the Creators thoughts in our minds."

"And maybe we have been taught all the knowledge of the Creators already?" Caleus said, "But I don't feel any smarter than before. Do you, Caleb?"

"No, I don't, Caleus," I said, "but it's possible that we won't be any smarter. We may just have their memories to call on when we need to know or do something that we don't know now."

"That...." Caleus started to say something when the crews of the vessels called us to ask if the battle was over and if they were to go back to their planets. We told them to keep the Condor vessels, and to return to their planets and continue to train their crews as fast as they could.

"Captain Caleb, Sir, this is Lieutenant Robin Hanly. Do you hear me, Sir?"

"Yes, Robin, I can understand you. I'm glad to hear you have made Lieutenant. Can I help you?" I thought-said.

"I made Lieutenant when I joined the Space Force, Sir, but what I wanted to speak to you about has got to be confidential. There's no way that anyone can hear us is there, Sir?" Robin thought-said.

"No, Robin, this is as private as anyone can get, but if you joined the Space Force, why aren't you a Captain? There is no lower rank than Captain in the Earth Space Force!"

"That is the rank the Captains gave me and the others when we passed the training exercises, Sir," she thought-said.

"Well, I'll see about that in a minute! Now, what can I do for you, Robin?" I said, and told Caleus to listen to Robin's thoughts also.

"I was chosen by the crew to speak to you because I had spoken to you before, and they thought that you may be able to do something about our pay. The UNE told us that we will be paid at the end of the year, but some of the crew have families to feed and need the money now. Can you speak to the UNE and see if we may be paid a little sooner, Sir" Robin explained.

"Why don't we pay them in the gold we have stored aboard the Eagle?" Caleus said.

"That's a good idea, Caleus!" I said, then I thought-said to Robin, "I'll do better than that, Robin. I'll have your pay to you as soon as you land on Earth. Will a pound of gold a month for each crew member be all right?"

"That's way too much! We don't get that much pay in the military service, Sir." Robin thought-said.

"In the Space Force you will get paid one pound of gold a month for one year! The gold can be in one pound bars, or do you want it in coins?"

"Let me talk with the crew, and I'll find out how they want to be paid, Sir."

"I'll wait, Robin," I thought-said, then, since I knew what her answer would be, I told Micro to form the gold into twelve one ounce oval coins, an inch and a half long, to each pound of gold, but not to form the coins until we told them what would be on each side of the coins.

"What are we going to place on the coins, Caleb?" Caleus asked.

"I'll let you decide on that, Caleus, while I talk to the Captains of the Space Force about their assigning a rank other than captain to the crew," I said, and then I talked to the crews of the vessels by thought and told them that all the members of the Space Force were to be giving the rank of Captain until we told them otherwise, and I told them that I would have their yearly pay with me when I landed on their planet.

"Captain Caleb, Sir, this is Captain Robin Hanly. Can you hear me, Sir?"

"Yes, Robin," I thought-said.

"The crew would like their pay in coins, Sir."

"Then, that's the way I'll bring it to them. I hope to talk with you again, Robin, and thank you for bringing this to my attention. Good-luck!" I thought-said.

"Thank you, Captain Caleb, Sir," she thought-said.

I turned to Caleus and asked, "Have you told Micro what will go on the coins yet?"

"Yes, I have. There will be an image of a Mother and a Father holding out their hands in welcome on one side with the words, "Peace be with you my children", around the rim over their heads and, "one ounce", on the rim below their feet. On the reverse side will be an image of the galaxy showing each of the Creator's planets with the words, "Galactic Republic of Calorn", around the upper part of the rim, and the number "4275548" at the bottom. The number is the date. All will be in the Creators language. What do you think of my design, Caleb?"

"It sounds all right to me. Has Micro made them yet?"

"They are in the Dove ready for delivery. I had Micro place one hundred and forty-four coins in each packet and place them in a large box aboard the Dove. All right?"

"Yes, but how much gold do we have left, Caleus?"

"About enough to pay thirty-five thousand more crew members for one year. It looks like we'll have to find more gold when the crew grows beyond that number, Caleb!"

"I never thought of that when I offered to pay the crew! We'll just have to charge the UN of Earth and the UN of Jade about twelve pounds of gold a year per crew member for the use of our vessels," I said, and smiled. Then we both burst out laughing at the justice of what I had said.

When we landed the Eagle beside the Vulture on the island on Earth, we saw 104 black Doves and the crew of all fifty-one vessels standing on the runway to welcome us, so Caleus and I jumped the scooter down to the hangar deck and drove the Dove, that had the gold coins in it, out of the Eagle to give the crew their yearly pay. After distributing the packets of gold coins to each Captain, we held out our hands palms up, and we said, "Peace be with you!", then we went back aboard the Dove.

After we got back to the Eagle's control deck, I contacted the UNE through Doctor Malcolm Grayson, and I explained to him that all Space Force personnel will receive twelve pounds of gold each year, in advance, from the Galactic Space Force, as the payment for their service, and I told him that the UNE was to provide us with that same amount of gold for the use of our vessels. He argued that the UNE would pay the Space Force personnel what the UNE thought they should receive, but I told him that we would pay them what all Galactic Space Force personnel received and not one ounce less. He finally agreed to my terms and said that the gold would be on the island in one month.

While I thought-spoke to Doctor Grayson, Caleus jumped the Eagle to the island on Jade where another Vulture set. After I was through thought-speaking with the Doctor, we repeated what we had done on Earth: We paid the crew of Jade's vessels and wished them peace by holding out our hands palms up. Then we went back aboard the Eagle and Caleus got in touch with the United Nations of Jade.

While Caleus was thought-speaking with the UNJ, I jumped the Eagle to the planet Enchantment.

"The United Nations of Jade have agreed to our terms, Caleb. It will have the gold for us in four or five weeks, and we are to collect the gold at the island on Jade."

"Good! Now we can forget about the rest of mankind and have a good time on this planet, Caleus."

******

Because the Creators had given us their knowledge, we wanted to experiment with the many ways in which we could use that knowledge, so we discovered a few things about ourselves in the four weeks that we roamed around Enchantment's many islands and continents: One of the first things we learned was that we could jump our bodies to anywhere on the planet by a simple thought. I believe it is called teleportation by the people of Earth. Another thing we learned was that we could pick up and throw a rock of any size by only a thought without ever touching the rock, and I believe it is called telekinesis on Earth. There were many other things we could do with only a simple thought that no other human, that I know of, could do, and we had the wisdom of the Creator's thoughts to make us realize how important it was to defeat the aliens and colonize the Creators planets with the people of Earth and Jade as soon as it was safe to do so.

We also learned that there were many planets in this galaxy with intelligent life. The life forms were not as we thought of as human, but they were very nearly human. Some were, in fact, so close to being human that it would be very hard to tell them apart without a very close look.

******

"Caleb, I believe it is time for us to leave for Jade and Earth to receive the gold from the United Nations of the two planets."

I was contemplating the ways in which a body can move through space without the need of observable thrust as the alien vessels had done, and I could find only three ways in which this movement without thrust could be accomplished.

I looked up at Caleus from my reclining position on the green grass under the worm sunshine and said, "I imagine it is that time, Caleus," and then I rose to my feet and placed my arms around her, "but I would rather stay here and make love to you."

"Not today!" Caleus said, smiling, and then we were standing on the control deck of the Eagle.

"I guess you're right, Caleus, we do have other obligations," we then separated and sat down in the control seats.

"Caleb, I was following your thoughts on the alien vessels, and I believe their mode of travel is through the other dimension. You remember when we jumped behind the first alien vessel? The space on the outside of the dome was black, and we were traveling at the same speed as that vessel."

"You are right, Caleus! They had to be traveling in the other dimension to be moving as fast as they were, but I hope they don't discover that it's only a few decimal points away from a faster way to move through space."

We jumped the Eagle to Earth, and Caleus said, "Now that we are aware of how the aliens travel, we can easily block their entrance into our galaxy."

"I'm working on that now, Caleus. You go ahead and land the Eagle while I block off our galaxy from the aliens in the other dimension."

"All right, Caleb!"

I closed my eyes and projected my thoughts into the other dimension. When I saw our galaxy as a spherical shape among the many other galaxies which surrounded me, I placed a film of thought around it that, if broken through, would sound an alarm in my mind. I then strengthened the film of thought with kindness and love, which would bring death to the evil alien mind but would not harm a human being. The aliens could penetrate the film of thought, but, in doing so, they would lose their life!

I opened my eyes and the Eagle was still in space above the Earth, and Caleus was just placing her finger on the GOTO dent. What I had done had occurred in less than a tenth of a second, or in the blink of an eye.

I told Caleus by thought what I had placed around our galaxy, and she said, "That will the stop aliens from entering our galaxy, but they can still fire their weapons at our planets. The Space Force will be very busy eliminating the fire balls when the aliens return."

The Eagle was now setting on the runway beside the Vulture on the island. I looked at Caleus, and said, "The Space Force has to have something to do, Caleus," and then I grinned at her.

We jumped to the Doves control seats and drove it across the hangar deck and out of the Eagle. A small crowd of Space Force personnel were standing beside a truck on the opposite side of the wide runway, so we drove the Dove across the runway and stopped beside them. Caleus had informed them that we were coming.

As we walked out of the Dove, the Captains held out their hands in welcome and we did the same. It surprised us that they had learned to salute in this fashion!

One of the young men stepped forward and said, "We have the gold from the UNE in this truck, Captain Caleb, Captain Caleus. Do you want us to load it in your Dove for you, Sir, Ma'am?"

"Yes, Captain, that will be fine, but before you load the gold, please off-load the four boxes of gold coins for the new crew members pay," I said, "I know they are probably anxious to be paid."

"Yes, Sir!" the young Captain said.

Using their hand GIs, the Captains off-loaded the gold coins and placed the UNE gold aboard the Dove. There wasn't quite as much gold loaded into the Dove as there was off-loaded, but that would be about right, for there were now only 25,848 new Space Force personnel on Earth.

"We want you to pick out a small number of the crew to be in charge of distributing the pay to your fellow crew members," Caleus said, "There is enough pay in the boxes we brought for thirty-five thousand of your crew. When you reach that number of crew members, call us and we will furnish the gold coins to pay the remainder of the crew you will need to fully man the vessels." Caleus was using thought-voice as well, so everyone in the Earth Space Force could hear her speak.

We held out our hands palms up, then we turned and went into the Dove and jumped it into the Eagle and onto the hangar deck beside the green column. Then, we jumped to the seats on the Eagle's control deck and jumped the Eagle to Jade.

Before we landed on Jade's island, we turned the gold, aboard the Dove, into one ounce coins. This gold had some other elements in it, which we placed in storage, so we had only enough pure gold coins to pay the crew as it now numbered on Jade. However, when we received the shipment of gold from the UNJ, we would have a start on the amount of gold we would need in the future.

The trip to Jade was almost a copy of our visit to Earth, but for the amount of gold the UNJ had waiting for us. The UNJ knew how many crew members the vessels would take, and it had shipped that amount of gold to the island, so we turned the gold into coins after it was placed aboard the Dove. Then we gave the Captains the amount of coins they would need to pay the crew, of the fully crewed vessels, for one year, and we still had enough coins to pay 25 thousand more crew members on Earth.

After we left Jade, Caleus and I transformed the red pieces of the destroyed alien vessels and the other elements from the gold into enough pure gold coins to pay all of the crew of Earth's vessels, and then some would be left over. We just didn't want to worry anymore about their pay!

"Caleus, I believe it is time I took you for a tour of Earth," I said, "Do you want to go?"

"Oh yes, Caleb, that would be fun! But we'll need some Earth clothes won't we, and I know how to change the looks of our suits into anything we want them to look like. When are we going?"

"How about in the morning, or today if you like?"

"In the morning will be fine, Caleb. That will give me time to try out different styles of dress, and you can pick the one you like the most."

"The way I like you the best is without any dress, Caleus," I said, and sent her a kiss by thought.

We jumped the Eagle to Earth and told the Captains there that we were giving them all the gold coins they would need to pay the crew of the fully crewed vessels for one year. This way, the crew wouldn't need to call us for their pay later.

When we were back in space above the Earth, we jumped the Eagle aboard one of the Vultures in orbit around the Earth to spend the night. In the morning I was going to show Caleus one of the many wonderful sites we have on Earth.
